Marc Eversley Dominated LA

Updated: Dec 9, 2021

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Chicago Bulls are relevant in the NBA and it’s because of what general manager Marc Eversley was able to steal from the biggest franchise in the NBA, Los Angeles Lakers.

Who wouldn’t want to go to LA? You would be rich in the one of the most beautiful cities in America surrounded by Holl

ywood’s finest. Get to play with one of the best players of all time and a solid chance to compete for a title. This is what Eversley was up against when recruiting Demar DeRozan and Alex Caruso.

The Bulls were in a different spot than the Lakers. Bottom of the Eastern Conference and they needed a change. They haven’t been to the playoffs since 2017 nor had a winning season since then.

They needed to make big moves and big moves fast. They wanted who LA wanted, how do you beat LA?

The first move was getting Alex Caruso. The sixth man guard took social media by storm by his looks and athletic ability. He became a perfect person to make memes of. What was overlooked was how impactful he is on the court.

Caruso is an insanely good lengthy defender off your bench. He is also a good shooter who shoots 43% from the field. In every season except his rookie year, he averages a steal or more a game. Making him a valuable asset on the defensive side.

Caruso was a free agent that wanted to stay in Los Angeles. Why not? He won a title for them and was very important on that team. Marc went to Caruso with a huge offer, something he knew Lakers wouldn’t match.

Eversley worked smart, Caruso gave the Lakers a chance to match the Bulls offer. The Lakers didn’t. Since that move, Caruso has became a huge part of this 2022 Bulls team and has rocked the NBA.

Caruso is apart of the closing lineup of the Bulls in every game. He leads the NBA in steals and in steals per game this year. His field goal percentage, assists per game, and steals per game are all career highs so far this season. Nice steal for Marc Eversley, but he does it again.

It was a foregone conclusion that Demar DeRozan was going to be a Los Angeles Laker going into the 2021 free agency. DeRozan was going to be the missing piece for the Lakers and help them do better than a first round of the playoffs bounce. Not to mention, DeRozan is from Los Angeles.

It wasn’t until Marc Eversley made a trip to see DeRozan when it all changed. No one knows what was said in the meeting, but whatever was said, it changed DeRozan's mind from going back home to Chicago.

As a Chicago Bull, DeRozan has been sensational. So far this season, DeRozan is averaging more points, rebounds, assists and better shooting percentage than his career averages.

He is mentioned in the MVP conversation this year and has been valuable down the stretch in close games.

With these additions, the Bulls have set themselves up with a record of 8-4 and have shocked teams around the NBA.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are 7-6, fighting each other during timeouts and having trouble sharing the ball. The Lakers are near the bottom of the Western Conference while the Bulls are the other end.

Marc Eversley stole two valuable assets from Los Angeles and is building something special in Chicago. It is something exciting to watch as the Bulls for the first time in awhile has a general manager that is not afraid of competing with the big dogs.
